Privacy and Cookie Policy

Last updated: 24 September 2026

1. Who runs this site

What If I Survive? is a personal, non-commercial hobby site run by Fabian, a private individual based in Belgium. I am responsible for the personal data processed through this site (the "controller" under the GDPR). You can reach me at whatifisurvive@gmail.com.

2. What is stored on your device

The site remembers two small settings in your browser's local storage: whether you chose dark or light mode, and whether you accepted or declined statistics cookies. These are strictly necessary for the site to do what you asked, never leave your device and are not used to track you, so no consent is needed for them.

3. Visitor statistics (Google Analytics), only with your consent

If you click "Accept" in the cookie banner, the site loads Google Analytics. It helps me see which pages are popular and how the site is used. Google Analytics sets cookies (named _ga and _ga_...) that last up to 2 years and collects information such as the pages you visit, how long you stay, your device and browser type, your approximate location (country or city) and your IP address. This counts as personal data under the GDPR, even though I cannot see who you are.

Google Analytics is provided by Google Ireland Limited, which processes this data on my behalf. Data may be transferred to Google LLC in the United States, which is certified under the EU-U.S. Data Privacy Framework. The statistics are kept in Google Analytics for a maximum of 14 months.

The legal basis is your consent (Article 6(1)(a) GDPR). If you click "Decline", Google Analytics is never loaded. You can change your mind at any time via "cookie settings" at the bottom of every page. If you withdraw your consent, the Google Analytics cookies are removed from your browser.

4. When you email me

If you send me an email, I use your email address and message only to reply to you. I don't share them with anyone and delete them when they're no longer needed. The legal basis is my legitimate interest in answering your message (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).

5. What I don't do

No ads, no selling of data, no other trackers and no contact forms. The share buttons on the calculator only connect to X, WhatsApp or Facebook when you click them. From that moment, their own privacy policies apply.

6. Your rights

Under the GDPR you have the right to access, correct or delete your personal data, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability and to withdraw your consent at any time. Send an email to whatifisurvive@gmail.com and I'll respond within one month. For statistics data, please note that I usually can't link it to you as a person.

If you think your data is not handled correctly, you can file a complaint with the Belgian Data Protection Authority (www.dataprotectionauthority.be) or with the data protection authority in your own country.

7. Changes

If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with a new date at the top.
